Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “curl.
Morning by morning as I would get ready for high school, early 90s, I would sit on the floor plugging in my curling iron to
that sit on my bottom pink shelf to warm up. This was the in thing to do at the time, and I wanted to be in the in! There was some definite sacrificing that I had to do with this because of my FA. My balance, coordination, and fine motor skills are all off so keep that in mind. After warming up the curling iron I carefully opened it and placed my bangs in them and gave them a curl. Sometimes I would end up dropping the curling iron on my thighs or burning my forehead, OUCH!! Concealer became a must! My Gma sold Avon at the time and I kept her in business! And we cannot forget the hairspray Rave with the purple lid, LOL! After high school it got harder and harder to handle the curling iron because my hands started to curl in due to the progression of my FA. I can’t win for losing, but I guess it could always be worse! The goal is to get and keep my grip on!

Fast forward to about 2022 as I tried my luck with Botox. in my hands to straighten my fingers, and while it worked and was so excited! It was also not letting me not letting me keep my grip. This did not make me a happy camper so I need my grip more than anything. Also having FA I use my grip for a lot of things. For example, getting in and out of bed and I have a superpole that goes from ceiling to the floor and I grip it and also for the bathroom and shower. So I have little jungle gym and every room! So I decided not to have Botox after that. It has taken me a while for my grip to come back and I am hoping that it would all come back + some. However, guess it could always be worse! The goal is to get and keep my grip on!

I know you are doing your hand exercises every day too.
I understand how important those stretching exercises are. I do them every afternoon, especially the bridges.
Keep on keeping on with gripping that pole!

Exactly right! I just keep praying 🙏 that I have the strength to do them daily!

I have the same issue with my cramps. I need my grip to grab on to my sit to stand lift. I have exercise that i do daily with a stress ball and one where i make a claw and then close my hand into a fist and then stretch my fingers back out to a open hand. and i repeat that 10 times claw fist open.

I think I used a curling iron when I went to prom. Well, my hands were too gone to hold anything (even a pencil I couldn’t write myself eighter), but my friends came over and did my hair with the curling iron before senior prom. I went to a hairstylist for my junior prom.
