A challenging beginning to 2022!

This new year is bringing so many challenges to the surface. I have graciously been donated this hand bike. If this was something that had been offered to me 10 or 15 years ago I would be all up on it and wanting and you use it. I know that independently I would have been able to do it no problem, but I am not sure now with the progression of my FA. Yesterday I transferred in and out of it which was a two-person job. I also propelled it forward just in the house which showed that yes I could propel it forward in the house but the biggest challenge will be when the weather is nice and we can take get out on the street. We do not have sidewalks in our neighborhood so we will have to go on the less busy and flat street in the neighborhood. My PT is definitely wanting me to at least try this bike. I do not want to just throw in the towel before giving it a shot! We will see how it goes! Pray for me! I can see where it would be beneficial to use not sure if I will be able to. I can always return it to the company that donated it to me that way it could benefit someone else. These bikes are $3000!! I think I have, and myself down by talking this out 🙂

Happy new year everyone! Hope your 2022 is great! Space safe everyone! It is a party of to you up in my house, in my pajamas watching some Dirty Dancing!

Rolling on, Stephanie

  1. Great post! I’m so happy you gave the bike a try and was able to propel it in the house! Can I make a couple of suggestions?
    1) Take the bike down to that empty parking lot across from Richland High School to practice instead of the street. Will it fi in the van?
    2) If you were responding to the WORD OF THE DAY, which was “beginning” just remember to put the WOD badge at the bottom of your post or link the word to the original post. If you weren’t trying to do that, never mind, lol 😂
Great post in any case! You are an inspiration! I think you can do it, and you won’t have to worry about sending it back! You go girl!!

    1. Thank you for the compliments! I probably should have explained more that the bike is so big that it will not fit in the van. PT Cindy says that people just to use their neighborhood streets. I asked the gentleman who brought the bike how easy it would be to transport it and he said it is very tricky that he has a truck that he uses. I am not going to ask dad with his back and knees. Would love to be able to do that, but that is not really an option. After Jan I will not be seeing PT Cindy anymore because of insurance. Class does not handle Medicare and sent that I have Medicare now primary with Medicaid being secondary class will no longer pay for skilled therapy, which is PT, OT, and speech. Massage therapy is the only thing they will pay. PT Cindy is the one who got the bike donated to me but it took for ever to get here.

And I wasn’t trying to do the word of the day thing. That was just coincidental, LOL!

      1. I figured, lol!
        Oh, well that’s all a bummer, I’m sorry 😞
Thank goodness you still have the massage!
I wish I knew how to get you the other therapies. 😔

  2. I cannot ride a bike. I never really learned but I got an adult tricycle. It’s not as easy as a regular bike to maneuver AND it’s can’t fit in the car so I can only take it where ever I can ride it. All that to say it is fraught with some difficulty but when I do rode it and enjoy the sunshine and cars honk cuz they think and adult tricycle is cool, it’s worth it. I just do what I can when I can on the bike. Try not to put too much pressure on yourself and just see what you can enjoy about the experience. Love you Steph.

    1. I never knew that about you? What made you decide to get a adult trike? Wondering how I can fit in your car? Take a picture of it? That is awesome that you are using it! For how long have you been using it? I will take your advice and just get outdoors to let the sunshine hit my face and go from there! The weather has not worked out for me and my PT to get out with it yet, ugh!
